Navi Mumbai airport goes international with Abu Dhabi flights, 200 days after opening

Navi Mumbai International Airport crossed a milestone on July 15, when Air India Express operated its first scheduled international departure, a direct service to Abu Dhabi. The route opens with two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Fridays and is slated to add a Sunday rotation from July 29. The international debut comes less than 200 days after the airport began domestic operations on December 25, 2025.

The maiden flight did double duty: it carried the airport's first perishable-export consignment, a signal of where NMIA wants to play in high-value, time-sensitive cargo. Operator guidance points to dedicated freighter activity scaling up over the coming months, positioning the airport as a second air-cargo gateway for the region alongside its passenger ramp-up.

For property markets on the Raigad side of the harbour, this is the catalyst that the last decade of construction has been building towards. International connectivity — not just domestic — is what historically anchored the premium around Mumbai's existing airport, and Panvel, Ulwe, Dronagiri and the wider NAINA belt now sit inside that catchment, stacked on top of Atal Setu and planned metro links.
