MMRDA revives Metro Line 14, inviting study bids for a 44-km Kanjurmarg-Badlapur corridor

MMRDA has invited fresh bids to run a techno-economic feasibility study for Metro Line 14, a planned 43.69-km corridor linking Kanjurmarg in Mumbai with Badlapur on the region's eastern fringe. The e-tender, with a pre-bid meeting on July 3 and submissions closing July 7, restarts work on a line envisaged with 24 stations and a roughly 3.25-km tunnel to cross a creek.

The same consultant is also being asked to review detailed project reports for an access-controlled road connecting Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath and Badlapur, and for a 21-km flyover between Shil Phata and Rajnoli Junction in Bhiwandi — a cluster of links pointed at the same eastern belt.

For property, the significance lies in where the corridor reaches. The Kalyan-Dombivli-Ambernath-Badlapur stretch has long offered some of the MMR's more affordable homes, but its growth has been constrained by road-bound commutes. A high-capacity metro, if it advances, would tighten that belt's link to central and eastern Mumbai.

The important caveat is stage. A feasibility-study tender is an early planning step, not a sanctioned line with funding and firm timelines, and such corridors can take years to move from study to construction. Even so, the renewed push signals where the authority sees the next wave of transit-led demand forming.
