Maharashtra readies its first privately-run 'model' sub-registrar offices for August

Maharashtra's registration department is set to open its first five privately managed "model" Sub-Registrar Offices in August, with the appointed operator committing to have them running between August 1 and August 30. The initial centres will be located in Mumbai (two), Pune, Navi Mumbai and Nagpur.

The offices are being built on the lines of Passport Seva Kendras, promising a more organised, technology-driven experience for people registering property. They mark the start of a broader public-private plan to set up about 60 such centres statewide, with another 25 earmarked for high-registration districts including Pune, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Nashik, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Sub-registrar offices are where every property transaction in the state is finally recorded, and long queues and uneven service have been a persistent friction point in Mumbai and its suburbs. Smoother registration could ease one of the last bottlenecks in the buying process in one of India's busiest property markets.
