Vadhavan port's Rs 20,647-crore reclamation package heads to bid with 48 firms circling
The special purpose vehicle building Vadhavan Port has taken its offshore land-creation package to tender, with bids scheduled to open on 18 August 2026. The scope covers dredging of the approach channel and harbour basin, reclamation of roughly 1,227 hectares and construction of an offshore protection bund, estimated at about Rs 20,647 crore and structured on a hybrid annuity public-private partnership model.
A pre-application conference drew 48 entities, among them Larsen and Toubro, Tata Projects, Adani Ports and Logistics, and international dredging specialists Royal Boskalis, Van Oord and Jan De Nul. The port is being built by a joint venture of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, holding 74 per cent, and the Maharashtra Maritime Board with 26 per cent, at a sanctioned project cost of around Rs 76,220 crore.
Vadhavan sits in Palghar, at the northern edge of the metropolitan region, and anchors a cluster that also takes in the proposed Palghar airport, the high-speed rail corridor and new expressway links. Land markets in Palghar and Boisar have been pricing in that expectation for some time. An awarded works contract of this size shifts the story from announcement to construction, which is a different kind of signal.
The caution is duration. Reclaiming 1,227 hectares from the sea is a multi-year undertaking, and the wider port is planned over roughly five years from the start of works. Anyone treating Palghar as a near-term connectivity play should be reading the construction schedule rather than the headline figure.
