Sewri-Worli connector crosses 62%, aiming to knit the Coastal Road to Atal Setu by year-end

The 4.5-km double-decker link, now targeted for a September milestone, promises to cut the western-Mumbai-to-Navi-Mumbai crossing to under 20 minutes.
Finclara Dispatch · 9 July 2026

The Sewri-Worli elevated connector, a 4.5-km double-decker link on Mumbai's east-west axis, has crossed about 62% completion and is being targeted for a September milestone, with the wider project slated to open during 2026. The connector will tie the Atal Setu (the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link) to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and the Mumbai Coastal Road.

The structure's signature challenge is a double-decker deck built over active railway lines, which required dismantling a 112-year-old bridge in one of the more complex engineering exercises the city has attempted in recent years. Its lower deck is designed for east-west and local traffic, while the upper deck feeds directly onto the Atal Setu.

Once open, the link is meant to compress a journey that can take an hour to under 20 minutes, giving western Mumbai a faster run toward Navi Mumbai and the new airport belt. For property, seamless access from the western suburbs and the island city toward Navi Mumbai strengthens the connectivity case for both ends of the Atal Setu, including the nodes around the upcoming airport.

Completion targets on Mumbai's marquee sea links have moved before, and a September date refers to a phase rather than a full public opening. But with the Atal Setu and Coastal Road already operational, the connector is the missing stitch in a corridor that is steadily redrawing how the region moves.
