Mumbai logs its best May for home registrations in 14 years
Mumbai city registered 12,315 properties in May 2026 — the strongest May in 14 years and a 7% rise on May 2025, according to Knight Frank India. The state collected roughly ₹1,051 crore in stamp duty over the month.
Tellingly, registrations rose while stamp-duty revenue slipped about 1% year-on-year — a sign the deal mix is shifting toward the mid-segment rather than the very top end. April 2026 had already logged more than 13,800 registrations and around ₹1,100 crore in duty.
The takeaway is the depth of end-user demand. Through a stretch of higher prices and rates, buyers have kept transacting — a steadier signal than headline launch numbers.
For anyone reading the market, registrations are the honest gauge: a registered deal is a price someone actually paid. Finclara's own ledger of registered deals is a growing sample of this activity, not the whole market.
